The Launch
As part of an initiative to showcase its rich heritage and culture, The University of the West Indies, Mona launched the UWI Mona Campus Culture and Heritage Tour (CCHT) on Monday, July 14, 2008 at the Undercroft of the Senate Building. The CCHT encompasses three elements, namely:
- A physical tour of the culture and heritage sites of the Mona Campus in a tour bus specially designed to capture the essence of the sites to be visited
- A DVD that features some of the sites of the tour
- A virtual reality tour (VRT) of some of the campus’s culture and heritage sites on the main roadway.
The bus, DVD and VRT were sponsored by the National Commercial Bank (NCB). The tour bus was handed over by the Managing Director of NCB, Mr. Patrick Hylton to the Principal of the UWI, Professor Gordon Shirley. Excerpts of the DVD and the VRT were shown.
The ceremony for the launch was preceded by a performance of a Marching Band and was followed by a tour of the heritage and cultural sites of the Mona Campus.
